Animal Kingdom: Wilderness Explorer

So what is this Wildness Explorer activity all about at Animal Kingdom?

Although I haven't personally taken part in this interactive game (which is based on Russel's Boy Scout troop from the movie Up) it is on my to do list for my next trip!

Participants earn "badges" (stickers) by adventuring around the park and completing activities.  First things first, you must register for the game (near the bridge from the Oasis to Discovery Island), where you will be given instructions and a map showing the park location for each task to be completed.
In my opinion this is a great option for animal lovers and a great souvenir to take home for the kids!  Activities to be completed include solving a puzzle, going on a scavenger hunt, or learning about a culture. There’s lots of interaction with cast members, who have been specially trained for this game. Cast members can also adjust the activities based on the age of the child playing.  For instance, small children may get an explanation about what "deforestation" means while older kids may have to figure out why tigers have stripes.
Disney offers over 30 badges (yicks) but don't worry maybe just do a few and get an idea of what the experience is like.  Here are a few badges (stickers) your adventurer can earn:
  • Veterinary Badge – Help diagnose a sea turtle’s health issue
  • Dinosaur Badge – Join in the exploration for dinosaur fossils
  • Animal Find Badge – Check off each of the animals you see
  • Music Badge – Learn how to play an African drum pattern
  • Yeti Badge – Find Yeti artifacts and hear about the folklore
Be prepared that your little one probably won't be able to complete this in a single visit.  Have you tried this experience at Disney, did you enjoy it?
